Tournament Info

This area is for your reference and so that you know what to expect from ASA tournaments in the East.  Please take your time to look through the information as there are some slight differences in what you may be used to playing in the East.

Coaches & Parents:  If you have any questions about the status of a tournament your team is signed up to play in, please call us directly.  We are always more than happy to talk to our coaches and parents, so give us a shout about any questions you may have regarding our tournaments especially when it comes to the teams playing with us.

Tournament Entry

To enter a tournament, please contact the Tournament Director listed for the tournament you wish to enter.

You can now also create a profile on tournamentasa and then register for tournaments online.

The deadline to enter tournaments is 10pm the Monday prior to the tournament unless otherwise stated in the tournament listing.  Please note that the tournamentasa system will not accept registrations on the Monday prior regardless of time.  You will need to call directly to enter.

Format

Tournament formats are typically a 4GG (1 warm-up followed by a 3GG bracket).  This does not mean you have to be beat 3 times, only that you are guaranteed 3 games in the bracket.

Game Times

Game times for Mike Van Horn's tournaments will be posted on EasternCarolinaASA.com by 9am the Thursday prior to the tournament.

Coaches will also receive an e-mail notification that the game times are posted.  To view game times, you need to go to the tournamentasa schedule, click on the appropriate tournament, and then click on the schedule tab. Parents & Fans can also sign up for texting alerts once the schedule is posted to be notified of any game delays, game results, and more.

Games will start at 8:30am on Sundays to allow ample time for church service and 30 minutes to get your team ready to play afterward.

If you are following us on twitter you will receive a tweet when game times are posted.

Check In

Teams must check in prior to their first game.

Coaches will receive an additional copy of the brackets at check in.  You will need to have a copy of your roster and insurance certificate in order to check your team in.

If you are sanctioning with ASA at the tournament, you will receive a copy of the ASA rule book, scorebook, and registration card during check in.

You can now use the roster form below to save your roster information on a pdf form.

Sportsmanship

We at ASA strive to foster a competitive, professional atmosphere.  We also understand that at times, games can become intense but please try and keep this in mind.  Please cheer for the success of your players and/or teammates.  We want everyone to have a great time and want everyone to perform to their best in the most positive environment we can have.  So please try and remember to cheer FOR your team and not against the team across the field.

We expect coaches who play NC ASA to set the example for their teams when it comes to sportsmanship.  Should a coach get ejected from a ball game, they will not be allowed to coach the rest of that game nor will they be allowed to coach the following game.

Local Rule Check List

Pitching

10U - 35ft

12U - 40ft

14U, 16U, 18U, - 43ft

Intentional Walks - Pitchers must throw four legally delivered pitches to the batter.  Simply "putting them on" give an unfair advantage to the defensive team by not allowing runners the chance to advance on a passed ball.

All batters, base runners, and on deck batters must have chin straps.

Courtesy Runners - You may use a substitute or your last recorded out.

New ~ Metal cleats are allowed in 14U effective January 1, 2013.

Run Rules:

15 after 3

12 after 4

8 after 5

EP's and FLEX

EP's may occupy any spot in the batting order and rotate freely in and out of defense.

A DP may occupy any spot in the batting order (1-10) but can not start the game in a defensive position. The DP must be designated as the DP in on the line up card.

The FLEX player must be listed in the last spot and must be designated as the FLEX. The FLEX player does not bat unless substituted into the batting order for the DP.

More information regarding the DP/Flex rule can be found in the ASA Rule book, Rule 4.3.

Refund Policy

This information is based on a 4GG tournament with a $250 entry fee.

Teams play:

1 game = $150 Credit

2 games = $100 Credit

3 games = $50 Credit

4 games = No Credit

Drop Policy

Teams dropping from tournaments after 10pm the Monday prior to the tournament will still be obligated for that tournaments entry fee.

If it is a pre-pay tournament, the drop deadline is the same as the pre-payment date.

Teams will not be allowed to play ANY NC ASA tournament until that penalty is paid.
